Lilburn Transit News… Vote March 19th

Have you seen the notice of the Official Voter Referendum for Gwinnett Transit Expansion Vote, March 19th?   It's about the expansion of MARTA into Gwinnett County.  For more information take a look at it on and remember that voting is Tuesday, March 19th.

Diana Preston Honored and Remembered

The City of Lilburn, Gwinnett County, and especially the Lilburn Community Partnership (LCP) and Wynne-Russell Preservation Board (WRH) are grateful for Diana Preston’s contributions to our community.  We were blessed to have such a hard worker, devoted advocate, and passionate volunteer in our community.

After her passing, her family expressed her desire that donations be made to the Wynne-Russell House Preservation Fund in lieu of flowers. To the members of the community, her family, and friends, the LCP and the WRH Preservation Board would like to say “THANK YOU” for your contributions on her behalf to the house.  We know how much Diana was loved and respected, and the many contributions received were indicative of how much she meant to her family, friends and community.

The honors and accolades that she has received and is still receiving shows that her influence and commitment to community extended beyond the borders of the city and the Wynne-Russell House.

In February 2018, the Lilburn City Council honored her by pronouncing that December 12th will forever more be known as “Diana Preston Day” in the city.

In December 2018, after her passing, a beautiful Snowfall Weeping Cherry was planted near the entrance of the Wynne-Russell House in her memory.  A plaque was dedicated and placed next to the tree, by members of the LCP and Wynne-Russell Preservation Board, so that all who visit the home will know that she was the driving force to make the house a community treasure and to bring it back to life.

In February 2019, the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce honored her as a community visionary at their 71st Annual Dinner where they recognized her with the R. Wayne Shackelford Legacy Award for having played a significant role in the history and progress of Gwinnett County.

And recognition of Diana Preston’s contributions continue.  On Monday, March 18th, State Representative Jasmine Clark will read a proclamation on the life of Diana at the State Capitol. You may watch it as it streams from the Morning Order website. The House Broadcast for the morning should be live between 10 am and 11 am at the following link:

Diana’s dear friend, Jack Bolton, called her the ‘dreamer’ of Lilburn and so many of her dreams have come to fruition.  Those of us who worked with Diana know how fortunate we were to have been able to partake in those dreams.  Rest peacefully Diana, we’ll take it from here.

Our Murder Mystery Dinner Fundraiser was a great success! We raised approximately $2000 that will benefit Staged Right Theatre and the Wynne-Russell House Preservation fund.  The home was a great location to hold a themed dinner for such a unique event as this.  Stage Right Theatre put on a hit production and a sold out engagement had people asking if we were going to do it again.  Two lucky people, one each night, who correctly guessed the identity of the murderer, were rewarded with 2 tickets to an upcoming Staged Right Production and dinner at Bambinelli’s.

The icing on the cake was the participation of the Lilburn Police who showed up to add an unanticipated flare of blue lights just as the culprit of the murder mystery was arrested.  It added an extra bang to the booms of laughter already sounding and emphasized their willingness to serve and participate in the community.  Thank You Lilburn PD for everything you do for our community!

Our local businesses came through, full force.  We’d like to Thank Bambinelli’s for the use of their liquor license, barista, and donation of gift cards.  Gaby's Bakery also receives kudos for donating our dessert for both nights.  And finally, Thanks to Old Town Flowers & Gifts, for adding the finishing touch of flowers for the tables.  Please support these wonderful businesses that are willing to donate to community causes!

Last, but not least, a special Thanks goes to all the Staged Right Theatre and Wynne-Russell House volunteers who spent hours helping to make this a very successful fundraising event for the preservation of the home.

The home is available for public rental on an hourly basis.  Our first Historic Tour for this year is scheduled for Saturday, April 13 at 10 am.  Historical Tours will also be held once a month from May - October.  They are FREE to the public.  We hope you will visit and learn about Lilburn’s oldest home and the families who lived there.
