Distributed by Lilburn Community Partnership          December 2,  2016

Be sure to come out for the Annual Christmas Parade tomorrow. The weather will be perfect - sunny and cool.  Afterwards stick around downtown and enjoy browsing the shops and maybe get a table for lunch.

This issue has just a few of the many events going on.  It does not list the many wonderful Christmas concerts and live presentations that the churches have that inspire us to live the Christmas message. These spiritual resources are usually open to all.

Please forward on to new neighbors and business owners.

(Go to the Blog page to translate this issue. or read it later.)

This Weekend

“On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruisesheal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night's dream.” (From the Publisher's Website)Directed by Staged Right's founder, robbie Summerour, "Almost Maine" is the perfect holiday treat!

Excellent suggestions for holiday safety:

"Reduce the chances of becoming a victim of a crime. Consider these tips as you get ready for shopping this holiday season.

Parking Lots / Walking to the Store

• Avoid shopping alone, there is safety in numbers.

• Park in a high visibility area with good lighting and plenty of other shoppers/pedestrian traffic.

• Try not to park next to vehicles with dark window tint or other concealment.

• Don’t leave anything in plain view! Put shopping bags, packages and other valuables in the trunk. If a potential thief is walking by your vehicle and doesn’t see anything inside, it drastically reduces the chances they will break in.

• Make sure the vehicle is locked and the alarm is set.

• Be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Don’t just park and get out. Do a quick scan of the lot to make sure no one is looking at you or approaching you. Make eye contact with others as you walk. This will allow you time to react and avoid being surprised.

• Walk briskly and confidently through the parking lot. Criminals choose a victim who looks like an easy target. Don’t be distracted with your phone; have your head on a swivel as you walk.

• Be wary of strangers who attempt to start meaningless or odd conversations. This includes people giving you a sob story about needing money for food or gas. Many times these people work in PAIRS. Even though you are talking to a seemingly “harmless” person, the 2nd suspect might be coming up from behind you.

• WOMEN: If you carry a purse, carry it close to the body preferably in front. Avoid having the strap on your shoulder or across your body. If someone tries to grab your purse, you could get seriously injured by being thrown to the ground if you have straps attached/around body parts.

If you see something, say something. Don't hesitate to call 911 to report suspicious activity.

Wynne-Russell Historic Preservation Committee

The WRHPC had a great turn out for their grounds clean-up this past Thursday.  Volunteers raked, blew off the leaves in the parking lot and freshened the pine beds. The crowning touch for the historic house was the hanging of wreathes inside and out.  Be sure to come out Dec. 10 to the Open House.

The committee meets the second Wednesday of the month at the Wynne-Russell House. The next meeting is Jan. 11 at 5:00 pm. New members welcomed.

Also, many thanks to one of the committee member's mother who painted the beautiful donation jar that you can view in the photo gallery sidebar.
