It's mid-November and it already looks more like Christmas than Thanksgiving! Oh, well... Everyone's planning ahead and leaving us traditionalists in the dust - Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving as you think Merry Christmas.
Seriously, we have so much to be thankful for in this great country of ours. Still there are those who need our help, and so during this very busy time of year, please support those food, toy, and coat drives that are out there and help our volunteers help our community.
While you are out there shopping, please consider supporting our local businesses. This is a great way to help keep our local economy healthy. Also several organizations have events going on that give you an opportunity to get out and meet your neighbors.
Read on and Happy Thanksgiving as you hum Jingle Bells.
Please forward on to new neighbors and business owners.

Temporary Ban on Outdoor Burning
All outdoor burning is banned due to ongoing drought conditions and severe fire danger, according to the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
The ban on outdoor burning includes the burning of all yard waste and debris (leaves, branches, twigs, and pine straw), commercial land clearing, and pit burns as well as the discontinuance of permits for all bonfires.
At this time the ban on outdoor burning does not include commercially available fire bowls, fire pits, chimineas, or masonry outdoor fireplaces. Only clean, untreated wood should be used in these devices. The ban on outdoor burning is temporary and will be rescinded when significant rainfall has occurred and the drought conditions have improved substantially.
More information is available on the Gwinnett County Fire Marshal's website at www.gwinnettfiremarshal.com. You may also contact their office at 678.518.4980, Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
Smoking, use of outdoor grills, and building campfires are banned in all Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation facilities. The temporary ban will remain in place as long as the risk of wildfire due to prolonged drought conditions remains high.
Gwinnett residents and visitors enjoy 10,000 acres of tranquil parkland, natural greenspace and athletic venues for social and recreational activities, making it extremely important to protect our parks and keep patrons safe from the potential threat of wildfires. The ban was put in place in response to grass fire incidents at County parks in recent weeks. The fires have not damaged any structures, but the threat of flames burning close to park buildings, athletic fields, and private property puts people and resources at risk.
During the ban, park patrons will not be allowed to use grills without a permit and should refrain from smoking or building campfires while visiting park properties. Anyone caught violating the temporary ban could face substantial fines imposed by the County and may be held responsible for restitution based on damage or personal injury caused by the fire.
Public safety officials and parks and recreation staff urge residents to act safely and responsibly while visiting County parks and other outdoor areas. A small spark from an unintentional fire could quickly get out of control due to dry groundcover, low humidity, and increased winds.
Outdoor Water Restrictions
On Thursday, November 17, 2016, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division declared a Level 2 drought response for 52 Georgia counties, including Gwinnett. In response, the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources reminds residents of current watering restrictions.
For planting, growing, managing, or maintaining ground cover, trees, or shrubs, watering with an irrigation or sprinkler system is allowed on the following schedule:
- Even numbered addresses (those ending in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8) may only water on Wednesdays and Saturdays, before 10:00am and after 4:00pm
- Odd numbered addresses (those ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9) may only water on Thursdays and Sundays, before 10:00am and after 4:00pm
For washing vehicles, homes, driveways and other structures:
- Personal use of water to wash vehicles or pressure wash structures is not allowed.
- Commercial car washes and pressure washing businesses are allowed to operate as usual.
You can use water outdoors any time for:
- Drip or soaker hose irrigation
- Watering personal food gardens
- Hand watering with a hose that has an automatic cut-off, or with a handheld container
- Irrigation of athletic fields, golf courses, or public turf grass recreational areas
- Hydro seeding
- Water from a private well
- Commercial agricultural operations
- Irrigation of plants held for sale, resale, or installation
- Installation, maintenance, or calibration of irrigation systems
- Alternative sources of water (grey water, rainwater, condensate, etc.)
Visit the Department of Water Resources Water Conservation webpage for information to help you conserve water.
