(Last month we ran an article on forming a neighborhood watch.)

Ideas to grow a neighborhood watch:

Information Sharing

Write your own Neighborhood Watch newsletter. Keep people up to date on crime or other subjects of interest.

Exercise or Walking Groups

It’s easier to pursue fitness with a companion. While doing this you may notice subtle changes in your neighborhood and unusual activity.

Garage Sale: Pitch in together and advertise a big neighborhood sale.

Neighborhood Clean Up and Landscape Trimming: Rent a dumpster for a weekend. Neighbors can share tools and expertise to help one another. Cap the day with a barbecue or a night of desserts and visiting.

Winter Emergency Planning: Develop a game plan for emergencies. Who has a gas stove? Four-wheel drive vehicle? Does anyone have special needs? Identify your neighborhood resources.

Start Up Training Sessions: Start and participate in training sessions given by volunteers.

Creative Pot-Lucks or Bar-B-Ques: Get together every 3-6 months to re-connect, keep it fun and light.

Local Interest Groups: Politicians and community service groups could share what is happening with your group.

For more information, send an email to info@safetysmartlilburn.org or visit the SafetySmartLilburn.org website and complete a request form.

Also note that Gwinnett County Police are sponsoring "Coffee with a Cop Event" on October 14, 2016 from 9-11 am at the beautiful Paris Baguette Café located at 3492 Satellite Blvd. Ste 100 in Duluth, GA.

"Wait"a Success,  Next up: "Almost, Maine"

Staged Right Community Theatre's "Wait" was a success and their two week-end runs were well attended.  “Wait!” was the first official show in Staged Right’s inaugural season and was presented in the Lilburn City Hall auditorium. Previously, the theatre had hosted two “Theatre Under The Stars” fundraisers, presenting the Pulitzer-prize winning “Talley’s Folly” by Lanford Wilson last September, and the beloved “Jerry Finnegan’s Sister” by Jack Neary in July of this year.

Staged Right Theatre is now in production for "Almost, Maine" by John Cariani, and directed by Robbie Summerour. Performances will be December 9-11 and 16-17, 2016.

About the show:

“On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine. As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend—almost—in this delightful midwinter night's dream.” (from the publisher’s website)

Staged Right is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization operating out of Lilburn, GA. The mission of Staged Right Theatre is to bring theatre to the community, and to bring the community to theatre. Our purpose is to develop and nurture diverse talent in a safe environment while performing community outreach through quality theatre and service to the community.

43rd Annual Lilburn Daze Festival

Pictured are LWC members demonstrating the "sofa" that will be great for family photos at the festival.

Saturday, Oct. 8, 9 am - 5 pm in Lilburn City Park

The Lilburn Daze Arts and Crafts Festival is right around the corner.  This year's event will be held on October 8 at The Lilburn City Park.  A Lilburn tradition for over forty years, Lilburn Daze features more than 150 arts and crafts vendors, a variety of food vendors and a kid zone featuring free art activities, a train ride, pony rides and lots of other fun for the children.  We look forward to having a lot of our favorite vendors returning this year including food trucks, many new crafters and an expanded children's area.  Come to find your favorite jewelry, pottery, baskets, wire sculpture, bottle art, wood Adirondack chairs and much more!!  Don't forget to stop by the Boy Scouts booth for your kettle corn!  Hosted by the Lilburn Woman's Club and co-sponsored by the City of Lilburn.  Visit www.lilburndaze.org for more information.

Wynne-Russell October Fundraiser

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be a paranormal investigator? Well now is your chance! Timeless Paranormal, local paranormal investigators and convention speakers, will conduct their 2nd annual paranormal fundraiser at the Historic Wynne Russell House on October 22, 2016. The sessions have been changed to an hour and a half this year!!! This will be a ticketed event at $20 per person with advanced reservations required. Times will be 5:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 10 p.m. There are only 8 spots per session and the event sold out quickly last year, so please visit http://www.lilburnevents.com/wynne-russell-tours-and-events.html to purchase tickets. In 2016 we had many children attend and Shannon & David make this a family friendly event, but please remember they will be discussing the paranormal, history and deaths of former residents when deciding if you want your children to attend.

100% of the ticket sales go to the preservation of the Wynne Russell house and we thank you for your support.

Business Corner

Agavero: Come out on Thursdays for Mariachi entertainment.

Dorough Landscape: Fall is the best time of the year to plant. Come in Oct. 14th, 15th, and 16th, Friday and Saturday 8 am to 5 pm and Sunday 12 pm to 4 pm.

Make Your Voice Count - Voting Opportunities

You can register to vote online if you have a Georgia issued personal identification card or a Georgia issued driver's license. Visit the Secretary of State's website at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/.

Need a mobile option? There's an app for that! Download the GA Votes app from the Apple Store or the Droid Play Store on your phone or tablet device. You can register and make changes to your current voter registration, plus locate your polling location, view a sample ballot, find satellite voting locations, and more.

Early Voting: Gwinnett County voters may cast their ballots in person before Election Day at the Gwinnett County Voter Registrations and Elections Office, 455 Grayson Highway, Suite 200 in Lawrenceville on October 17 - 22 and October 24 - 28 from 8:00am to 5:00pm and October 29 from 7:00am to 7:00pm.

In addition, seven satellite locations will be available beginning Saturday, October 29 and continuing October 31 - November 4 from 7:00am to 7:00pm. For a list of all satellite voting locations, visit the Elections website at www.gwinnettelections.com.

Vote by Mail: Registered voters can request an absentee ballot from the Voter Registrations and Elections Division now through November 4. It's easy; just download and print the application on the Absentee Voting page at www.gwinnettelections.com and mail, email, or fax the application to the Voter Registrations and Elections Division. Once the application is received, it will be processed and mailed to the address listed in the absentee ballot application.

Voters have until 7:00pm on Election Day to return their ballot in one of three ways:

1. United States Postal Service

2. FedEx, UPS, or other express delivery

3. Personally deliver their own ballot to the Elections Division

Please note that all absentee ballots are counted and tabulated on Election Day just as in-person ballots. To see a breakdown of past elections results, visit the Elections Results webpage atwww.gwinnettelections.com. Results for the upcoming elections will be available to view onwww.gwinnettcounty.com on election night.
